West Africa: Sub-Regional Peace Hinges On The Placement Of Biafra Restoration.  Quest At The Front Burner
Nana Akufo Addo

Expectations are relatively high for the final restoration of peace and tranquility within the West African sub-region with the emergence of the Ghanian President, Mr. Nana Akufo Addo, as the new chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He cannot do less than to courageously garner the requisite political cum diplomatic muscle aimed at confronting headlong, the seeming daunting challenges staring him in the face.

This he really need to do if he wishes to write his name on the sand of history by immediately putting into action, modalities needed to facilitate support to the agitating regions in West Africa. Secessionist agitations have over the years, rattled the sub-region, glaringly tampering with the existing peace due to the cruel and inhuman responses of national governments to their respective agitators.

And unless the newly appointed ECOWAS Chairman in the person of the Ghanian President, Nana Akufo Addo chooses to go through such an exalted leadership position without leaving a positive/progressive impact just like most of his predecessors, he should note that one of the very basic issues heating up the sub-regional polity, is the relentless agitation for Biafra independence.

His arrival at the helm of affairs as the new ECOWAS Chairman, places in his hands, a very unique opportunity for him to graciously write his name on gold if only he could look beyond those sub-regional instruments that encourage the oppression of humanity by protecting national interests. He rather  has to pro-actively begin to streamline efforts aimed at upholding justice and protection of human rights of the inhabitants of the entire sub-region.

It is true that Nigeria is presently the leading nation amongst the ECOWAS member states but a personality in the clout of President Nana Akufo Addo who has enormously contributed in making Ghana the current envy of West African nations through economic growth, national peace and security, is definitely not expected to pass through the highest sub-regional leadership position as one of those despots that have formerly led the organization, with no human face or regard for human rights.

The new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), is very close to engraving his name on gold should he determinedly align himself with the rapturous event which is about taking place in West Africa. That glorious experience is no other than the Biafra independence that would be heralded by  himself who has before now, shown strong support for the political independence of the regions in dire need.

Should the Ghanian President chooses the converse like his docile, oppressive predecessors by pretentiously turning blind eyes and maintaining sealed lips on the secessionist agitations that are currently enveloping West Africa, he should then know that such an opportunity presented to him on a platter of gold for his service to humanity on an expanded scope, may never ever come again to him through his life time because his position as Ghanian Head of State is only for a season. Therefore, opportunity has beckoned and it is very much readily placed before him as the current ECOWAS Chairman. He has to fully make his own contribution in what is potentially gathering to deliver in the West African sub-region.

If therefore there yet remains anything that will arrest peace and tranquility within the sub-regional block at the moment, it is the unfettered restoration of the Biafran sovereignty. This is so because this particular project has over the years, heated up the polity.

President Nana Akufo Addo having recently emerged as the new ECOWAS Chairman, clearly has two options to contend with and that is either to definitively support the independence of agitating regions and make history or to remain  docile like all those who have gone before him untill his tenure elapses. The choice is entirely his to make as the ball has been rightly placed in his court.

Humanity is closely watching!
