Foreign Fulani herdsmen planning to overrun southwest, says Gen. Togun

- There are fears that aliens from other West African countries have found their way into Nigeria - A governor in the southwest of Nigeria raised the alarm last week, calling for a lasting solution from federal authorities - A former spy chief of the Nigerian military has re-echoed the sentiments of the governor, saying the threat is real

General Kunle Togun (rtd), former boss of the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI) and current chairman, Oyo state Amotekun (Security Network) corps, has revealed that foreign Fulani herdsmen are planning to overrun the southwest region of Nigeria. The former chief spy of the Nigerian military made the comment in an interview published on Saturday, January 2 in the Daily Sun newspaper.

Last week, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state who employed General Togun, stated that the persistent influx and criminal activities by bandits from Mali and other West African countries especially in the Oke Ogun corridor is a source of concern for his government.

General Togun said:

“I had alerted people that these Fulani herdsmen, they have covered the entire 10 local government areas of Oke Ogun and the three local governments of Ibarapa. So, the threat has always been there.

“I’ve given series of lectures about these threats – to Oke-Ogun Elders’ Forum, Yoruba Council of Elders, so many people have invited me to give a lecture and I pointedly stated, that the intention of these Fulani herdsmen is to overrun us and it’s for territorial expansion.

“People are claiming it’s for religious motives, it’s not religious motives, it is for territorial expansion.” When asked how real is the threat of foreign invasion and territorial expansion in Yoruba land, General Togiun said:

“There is a calculated plan for the invasion of Yoruba land. 10 local governments of Oke-Ogun and the three in Ibarapa had been penetrated by these people and everyone knows that these people are not Nigerians.

“The Nigerian Fulani don’t graze on peoples’ land with their cows, they have their settlement in the bush around villages and towns.

“These Fulani people I’m talking about, meet with the Nigerian Fulani that we grew up to know and rape their wives, and rustle their cows, adding them to their own. The Nigerian Fulani that have been living amongst us for ages now don’t do such, they have never been a problem.

“There’s harmony between them and the local people because they don’t graze on peoples’ farmlands. We are friends. But these ones are different, and the issue evolved when they started killing all over the place.”

In a related development, the national chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Audu Ogbeh, has revealed what happens after captives are rescued from the clutch of terrorists and bandits following payment of ransoms.

Ogbeh, who was a minister of agriculture under President Buhari's first tenure said that with information available to the ACF, the criminals divert the ransom money into the purchase of arms. Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen.

Tukur Buratai, has vowed that the Nigerian army will shame and disgrace criminal groups in Nigeria in the year 2021. Buratai gave the assurance at an event held in his hometown in Biu local government area of Borno state recently
