 144 Nigerian police officers arrives Somalia to boost their security



A batch of Nigerian policemen, numbering about 144 have arrived in Somalia to improve security in liberated areas - The officials will be deployed to different parts of the country to serve in various roles such as patrols at checkpoints, among others - The Nigerian contingent joined the Somali Police Force to bring peace and stability to the country


A report by CGTN Africa indicates that at least 144 Nigerian police officers have arrived in Somalia to boost stabilization efforts in the country. The African Union mission who made this known Sunday, April 18, stated that said the arrival of the new contingent is a major boost to law and order.


The police operations coordinator Daniel Ali Gwambal noted that security operatives came to the country to fulfil the mandate of AMISOM with regards to operational support to the Somalis.


Gwambal in a statement issued in Mogadishu further said that the officials were going to also mentor the Somali Police Force (SPF) and assist in public order management, Xinhuanet reports. 


He explained that thirty police officers to serve under the AMISOM for a period of one year will be deployed to Beletweyne in HirShabelle state. The remaining officials will serve in various roles in the capital, Mogadishu. 


The officers will perform duties regular patrols at checkpoints, guard static duties, and other assignments that involve general policing. Gwambal said the officers will work on providing VIP escort and protection services, training and conducting joint patrols with their Somali counterparts and securing key government installations and high-level events. 


The AU mission said the new contingent will be working in concert with their Somali counterparts in ensuring improved security in liberated areas.
