Nigerian Army Abducts Numerous Youths In Ebonyi Community For Protesting Against Politically Imposed Leadership

The Abakaliki Command of the Nigerian Army has abducted youths of Ochokwu Community en masse, following a clash that occurred in the community on 16th September, 2023. Ochokwu is a community in Inyimagu District of Ikwo-south local government area, Ebonyi State.

According to reports reaching Family Writers Press International(FWPI), it is an election year and period when Ochokwu community chooses their Chair-person. But, as it is customary to Nigerian elections, the political stake holders in the said region have been imposing leaders that are of their own selfish interests on the community for many years. At this time, these politicians have also stepped up to repeat similar illegal action of which the youths resisted and vehemently embarked on a protest to convey their message of disagreement with any intention to politically impose leadership on them, insisting that whomever should chairman the community must be whom they collectively choses by themselves.

Quite interestingly, it is important to highlight that Ochokwu is the hometown of the current speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and a member of Ikwo-south All Progressive Congress(APC) party division, Hon. Moses Odunwa. But as of filing this report, we have not ascertained Honourable Odunwa's own involvement in the whole saga.

As the protest continued and turned into confrontations with the political class in the area, these politicians invited the Nigerian military who unprofessionally came and abducted every youth they sighted in the region, instead of attempting to restore order. Reports at our disposal reveals that two(2) hilux buses were fully loaded with abducted innocent youths of Ochokwu Community in a worst manner than even criminals are done, and moved to the State capital, Abakaliki. Our source was not able to ascertain the exact number because of the risk that could amount to.

By this report, we are lending our voices to these innocent youths and calling on all the necessary authorities in Ikwo local government, ranging from the local government chairman, Elder Stephen Orogwu, to Honourable Moses Odunwa, the Ebonyi State speaker of the house of assembly. Let these persons and others quickly intervene against any further aggression from the army on these harmless youths.

We are saying this for you to know exactly what happened because Nigeria army in their unprofessional way, will soon parade these innocent youths and tag them, IPOB and ESN.

It must be clearly noted in records, that these youths are not members of any groups whatsoever-either the government approved or the unapproved, neither did they engage in any illegal activity of any sort. They are simply Indigenous youths of Ochokwu Community, and their only crime is that they insisted on their rights of self-determination, demanding an end to politically imposed leadership on their community.

Family Writers Press International, reporting.
