Biafra Day: Markets shut, streets empty as Imo residents
comply with IPOB’s order
Imo residents on Friday largely complied with the
stay-at-home order directed by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) to
commemorate Biafra Heroes Day.
The streets of Owerri, capital city of the state, were
deserted. At the time of filing this report, vehicles were hardly seen.
Similarly, ever-busy Okigwe, Wetheral, Tetlow, Douglas,
Mbaise, Egbu, Orji, and Aba Roads were completely deserted.
Popular markets in Owerri, Ekeonunwa Owere, Relief, Alaba,
and others were under lock. Also, shop owners closed, except those who operated
skeletal services. Banks and schools were not left out as Imo state become a
ghost of its own.
