Tribute to Mwalimu Julius Nyerere: Indigenous People of Biafra Extend Solidarity to Tanzania

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have issued a heartfelt message of solidarity and tribute to the United Republic of Tanzania on the commemoration of the life and legacy of the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, a revered figure in African history. The statement, dated October 14, 2025, was addressed to Tanzanian President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan by Egwim JC, Regional Representative for East Africa of IPOB.

In the message, IPOB expresses profound respect and warm felicitations to the Tanzanian government and people as they honor Nyerere, described as "great father of Africa." The organization highlights Nyerere’s enduring vision of unity, justice, and self-reliance, which continues to inspire generations across the continent. His unwavering commitment to Pan-Africanism and the liberation of oppressed peoples is celebrated as a model of leadership rooted in principle, humility, and service.

The Indigenous People of Biafra particularly acknowledge Tanzania’s significant role under Nyerere’s guidance in supporting liberation movements and advancing African freedom and dignity. They note his support for the Biafra people during a challenging period marked by a colonial masterminded genocide, as well as his critique of the composition of modern Nigeria. IPOB emphasizes that Nyerere’s ideals of brotherhood and solidarity reinforce the belief that Africa’s strength lies in mutual respect and cooperation among its nations.

As Tanzania commemorates Nyerere’s legacy, IPOB joins in honoring a leader whose wisdom, moral courage, and compassion have shaped Africa’s collective destiny. The message concludes with a hope that his vision will continue to guide the continent toward peace, unity, and prosperity.

The tribute, sent from IPOB’s world headquarters in Langenfeld, Germany, and its UK office in Barking, underscores the organization’s deep regard for Nyerere’s contributions. The statement has been well-received as a gesture of transcontinental solidarity, reflecting the lasting impact of Nyerere’s leadership on African unity and liberation movements.
