Abuja Boils: The Day the Soldiers Stopped the Bulldozer Minister

Abuja witnessed a drama today that will echo for years,  a day when the so-called "untouchable" Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was publicly stopped and humiliated by armed soldiers. The same man who has made a career out of demolishing other people’s homes and grabbing lands at will was finally demolished by authority himself.

When the news broke, Family Writers Press International did not rush to tag it Breaking news. No,  it was not breaking, it was liberating! It was a moment of jubilation for the oppressed people of Abuja who have suffered under Wike’s reign of fear and bulldozers. For once, the bulldozer minister was bulldozed by forces beyond his reach. And we celebrated, because justice,  even if briefly,  smiled.

Let’s be clear about one thing:

Wike didn’t go to that site today by accident. He had only one thing in mind and that is inspection, a final inspection before the demolition. He went there to seal the fate of the property owners, to give his usual order: “Bring in the bulldozers.” But this time, the story took a twist he never saw coming.

At the gate, armed soldiers stood firm. They told him bluntly that he couldn’t enter. It was not business as usual. The man who is used to barking orders found himself silenced by authority. For the first time in a long time, Wike, the same man who orders demolitions at will,  was stopped from even entering a site. His anger flared, but the soldiers didn’t move an inch. Abuja stood still, watching its most arrogant minister humbled.

Let’s speak the truth without fear:

Nyesom Wike has been the most oppressive FCT Minister Nigeria has ever produced. He behaves like a landlord of the city, dishing out demolition orders like a tyrant. He takes what he wants and destroys what he dislikes. The rich and connected worship him; the poor and helpless dread his name.

In Abuja today, to get land in a prime area, you don’t need merit or process, all you need is friendship with Wike. Tell him the land you want, and he will clear out whoever lives there, demolish their homes, and hand the land over to you. That is the face of impunity wearing a ministerial suit.

But today, Wike met his match. The same arrogance he dishes out to others was returned to him in full measure. He came for inspection before demolition,  and left with humiliation before the nation. The mighty bulldozer was stopped by men in uniform.

This is not just a clash between a minister and the military,  it is a divine reminder that power has limits.

The city he has terrorized finally pushed back. The same Abuja that cried under his bulldozers smiled today. The people that trembled before him finally laughed.

Whether he learns from this or not, one truth remains, the walls of Wike’s impunity have started to crumble.

The bulldozer has been bulldozed.

And we say  so shall it be for every oppressor in power.
