 Damaged Nationhood: The Irredeemable Cost Of Feeding-Bottle Federalism And Entrenched Terrorism

A feeding bottle (also called a baby bottle or nursing bottle) is a container with an attached nipple (teat) created for the use of infants and young children for drinking milk, formula, or other liquids through suckling. It is commonly used to feed expressed breast milk, infant formula, or supplements when direct breastfeeding is not possible or as a complement to it.

This above analogy succinctly captures the situation of northern Nigeria from the moment the unconscionable and bestial amalgamation was initiated by a colonial administration displaying total disregard for any humanitarian love. The British knew what the outcome of Nigeria would be by yoking the north and south of the protectorates later designated Nigeria. Yet they set out to make a capital gain out of the ensuing chaos and/or catastrophe.

In a report sent to her majesty, the colonial representative of her majesty described the north and south as a mixture of oil and water. They went further to describe the south as a rich wife with the north referred to as a broke husband.

Infact, the actual descriptions as appeared in Lord Frederick Lugard’s 1912–1919 reports and memoranda to the Colonial Office goes thus: "Economically deficit-ridden, reliant on subsidies; focused on internal trade and agriculture". Viewed as relatively “backward” by some colonial officials, with resistance to southern cultural influences.

Yet, the same British handed Nigeria over to these primitive Fulani scavengers. From inception, they stalled the Nigerian pro-independence movement, opting instead to continue being under colonial rule. At Independence, the same anti-independence force was handed leadership. It does not get shocker than that.

This political convenience created for the benefit of the British made north over qualified to ascend the political leadership of Nigeria through doctored population advantage that plays a significant role in the elections marred by irregularities — (Nigeria is the only place on earth where the arid north is more populated than the tropic south). 

Through more states, more local governments, more monthly allocations— even though they contribute little to nothing, more members of national assembly just to ensure that every legislation is under their mercy, disparity in unity school and university admission score, access to international airport even though they have the least travelers, comptrollers of customs and access to seaports even though they do not engage in trade or import goods. The Fulani enjoys more recruitment into the military with fast track promotions even though they are the minority tribe in the north, heads the Ministries, Departments and Agencies even though they are the least academically qualified.

The list is endless. This political configuration is lopsided and lacks merit and everyone knows it. It is the core crux of the matter. It is the turning point of the jihadi movement and terrorism fed through the shameless and relentless feeding of a grown man like an infant using a feeding bottle.

The northern elites knew that to sustain this imbalance, they either promote meritocracy and level playing ground or they choose a path to sustain the misnomer — and they choose terrorism. It has brought them this far but, like every monster, it is proving costly and unsustainable and will surely consume the creator.

The truth must be told of how Nigeria can not survive the monster created by northern elites, with the help of their British overlords, to use terrorism as a political clout, Christian genocide and Islamization enforcement. The aftermath of this evil conceived approach is the flow of innocent blood, ancestral land grab and damaged nationhood.
