ONE NIGERIA: A Farce Sustained From Within
Let it be stated clearly that, one of the greatest impediments to the actualization of a sovereign state of Biafra is not external opposition alone, but the actions of certain indigenous “One Nigeria” politicians from Biafra own region. As the saying goes, it is the rat in the house that informed the rat in the bush that there is fish inside.
The Biafra freedom movement gained unprecedented momentum and popular support prior to Operation Python Dance(an onslaught unleashed on Biafrans by Nigerian join forces, which took lives of hundreds of Biafran Youths). Yet it was neither the President nor opponents of Biafra from other regions who made that operation possible. Rather, it was the frantic efforts of Igbo political elites who moved swiftly to undermine the movement once it became clear that the tide was turning.
One may ask: what interest do these politicians have in preserving a Nigerian state that offers no hope or meaningful development to their people? The answer is not far-fetched. Through a deeply corrupt system, they have been selected as willing tools to legitimize and sustain a structure that is fundamentally hostile to Igbo, and the wider Biafran aspirations. In return, they have amassed wealth and privileges that the ordinary people can scarcely imagine. For them, supporting Biafra represents a leap into uncertainty, one that threatens their comfort and relevance.
This reality became even clearer during an interview in which Mazi Nnamdi Kanu challenged these politicians directly. He stated that if they truly wanted him to abandon the Biafra agitation, they should ensure that the Port Harcourt International Airport functions effectively, that the seaports in Igwuocha operate optimally, and that our businessmen no longer have to travel thousands of kilometres to Lagos to clear their goods. He demanded functional roads, basic infrastructure, and economic inclusion.
It was at that moment that the illusion of “One Nigeria” became impossible to sustain. What exists instead is a deliberate, carefully structured system designed to keep the Biafran nation in perpetual neglect and dependency.
Sadly, some of our own elites have chosen to play their roles faithfully in sustaining this injustice.
The responsibility now lies with our people to awaken politically, identify those who actively work against collective progress, and hold them accountable through awareness, unity, and principled civic pressure. Only then can a strong, coordinated demand for justice, equity, and the restoration of Biafra be more meaningfully pursued.
