Former Abia Leaders Unite, Endorse President Tinubu's Re-election Ahead of 2027 Polls

In a significant political development signaling early alignments for the 2027 general elections, former governors and legislative leaders from Abia State have convened a strategic meeting, unanimously endorsing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 while subtly positioning to challenge Governor Alex Otti's administration.

The meeting, described as the Forum of Former Abia State Executive, National, and State Legislative Members, brought together experienced political figures to discuss critical issues affecting Abia State and Nigeria at large. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, highlighted the gathering in a recent Facebook post, emphasizing its focus on "responsibility and continuity."

Key attendees included former Governor Senator Theodore Orji, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Dr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and other prominent former officials. The forum deliberated extensively on governance challenges in Abia State, exchanging views aimed at serving the "overall best interest of well-meaning Abians."

A major outcome was the group's unanimous decision to back President Tinubu's re-election bid, reflecting their confidence in his leadership for sustained national development and party unity. Participants also resolved to mobilize efforts for the success of APC candidates in future elections, underscoring a shared commitment to progress and prosperity for both Abia State and Nigeria.

Senator Kalu, in his post, stated: "These decisions reflect our shared belief in strong leadership, party unity, and sustainable development... As leaders bound by experience and duty, we are united in purpose to advance the progress, unity, and prosperity of Abia State and Nigeria."

The meeting comes amid heightened political activity in Abia State, where the APC is intensifying efforts to challenge the incumbent Labour Party administration led by Governor Alex Otti. Recent reports indicate growing momentum for the APC, with Senator Kalu and allies actively strategizing to "reclaim" the state in 2027.

This endorsement adds to a series of early declarations of support for President Tinubu from various quarters, as political stakeholders across Nigeria begin positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle. The forum's cross-partisan tone despite many attendees having roots in previous administrations suggests an attempt to build a broad coalition focused on development over partisan divides.

Observers note that such gatherings of former leaders could influence grassroots mobilization and shape the political landscape in the South-East region leading up to 2027.
