BREAKING NEWS: U.S. Deploys Military Team to Nigeria for Counter-Terrorism Support

The United States has officially deployed a team of military officers to Nigeria, marking a significant step in deepening bilateral cooperation against terrorism and jihadist threats.

U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander General Dagvin R.M. Anderson announced the move during a briefing on Tuesday, describing the team as providing "unique capabilities" to augment Nigeria's long-standing efforts against groups affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) and other militants, particularly in the northwest and northeast regions.

This follows U.S. airstrikes on December 25, 2025, targeting ISIS-linked camps in Sokoto State, conducted in coordination with Nigerian authorities. The deployment builds on recent high-level discussions, including a meeting between General Anderson and President Bola Tinubu.

Nigeria's Defense Minister Christopher Musa confirmed the presence of the U.S. team, emphasizing its focus on intelligence sharing, advisory support, and enhancing joint counter-terrorism operations. Officials from both sides stressed that this is a limited, collaborative effort not a large-scale intervention and aims to bolster Nigeria's fight against ongoing violence from bandits, insurgents, and extremists.

Stay tuned for updates as developments unfold. The quest for peace and justice continues—vigilance is key.
