The City Boy Movement: A Banner Of Deception And The Harvesting Of Emotions
Following the recent unfolding events in Nigeria’s political space, the renewal of lies by the political elite to gain the people’s attention and votes once more, specifically with the introduction of the "City Boy Movement", has shown that the political elites do not relent. They keep manufacturing new ways to manipulate the minds of the gullible masses just to score their political cards.
Every four years, they come up with new strategies and promises to manipulate the people. They have made poverty a very viable weapon against their own people, leading one to wonder if the people are mentally lazy to the point they can not identify and reject the antics of the enemy,( any leader or government who uses poverty as a weapon against its own people is the enemy of the people). Or should we call it greed on the side of the people who choose to sell their entire future for less than a pot of porridge?
As Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra often says: “There is something significantly wrong with the brain of a black man.” He argues that the problem of a black man is his inability to think critically. It is difficult to understand why a group of people are so comfortable and relaxed in the midst of oppression, pain, starvation, mass murder, and ethnic cleansing.
Before screaming support for the so-called City Boy Movement, ask: what has been done differently to improve the welfare of the people? Has the security of life and property, which is the government’s primary responsibility, improved? How come nations at war still enjoy steady electricity while Nigeria is cast into darkness? How do these folks not feel ashamed to wave this banner of deception while facing the high cost of living, the highest number of out-of-school children, and a country topping the list of the worst places to live in the world?
It is a shame that in the Southeast, those who are supposed to stand tall and fight for their people are those shamelessly waving the flag of deception. All they care about is getting their fair share; they do not care what happens next. While terrorist Fulanis and other deadly groups encroach into the region, they find it unnecessary to address.
Take Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest. In a June 2024 interview with BBC Igbo, he stated that the South-East is not safe for business. Yet, a few years later, he is scrambling for support from that same region to please his master in Aso Rock. Since he relocated his business to his perceived safer Lagos, I guess it is safer if he takes his campaign to Lagos. If the region is not good for business, then it should not be good for their political campaign and deception.
The people should be wise enough to not be fooled by fake promises and crumbs. Controlling our emotions is necessary; what these people do is harvest your emotions, using your weakness to steal your future from you. But it is time the people wake up and realize that Nigeria is already a failed state and there is no remedy. It is time the people realize that the total disintegration of Nigeria is the only hope the common man has in this hellhole.
The elites know the truth that Nigeria has failed, but they will only keep running around it for their own benefit.
Another four years of pain, poverty, and death is coming. When will the people rise up against these corrupt politicians who do not care if you live or die? They place their own personal interest above your future. Many lives have been lost to terrorism recently. Even military personnel have lost their precious lives, yet there is no national mourning, no regard for their fallen heroes. How then do you think they will care if you live or die?
2027 will come and go. When they finally get what they want from you, you will not matter to them anymore. They will go back to flaunting their wealth in your face.
Rise up and reclaim your future. Stop being a spectator in your own destruction. If you continue to accept the crumbs of your oppressors, you are signing the death warrant of the generations to come. It is time to stop believing in promises that does not exist and start demanding an absolute end to this system of bondage. The time for critical thinking is now; the time to choose between temporary porridge and eternal freedom is here. Wake up, for the sake of your children and the land, and reject the banner of deception once and for all.
