What More Are You Waiting For?': Netanyahu Urges World Leaders to Act Against Iran as 'Enemy of Civilization
Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stark warning to world leaders,
branding Iran as the "enemy of civilization" and a profound danger to
global security following a series of aggressive actions over the past 48
hours.
In remarks
delivered at the site of an Iranian missile impact in Dimona (southern Israel),
Netanyahu highlighted four major developments that he said demonstrate Tehran's
reckless disregard for international norms and civilian life.
First, he
accused Iran of launching "terror weapons" against civilians, including
the use of cluster munitions banned under international law targeting
residential areas, a children's nursery, and an elderly care facility. Recent
reports confirm that Iranian ballistic missiles carrying cluster submunitions
struck central Israel, injuring at least 15 people (one seriously) and causing
damage in populated zones around Tel Aviv and other areas.
Second,
Netanyahu pointed to missile strikes near Jerusalem, noting that ballistic
missiles landed dangerously close to the city's holy sites sacred to Judaism,
Christianity, and Islam, the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre,
and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Fragments and impacts were reported near the Old City,
including areas adjacent to these religious landmarks, during a period
coinciding with Eid al-Fitr celebrations. Israeli officials described the
attacks as deliberately endangering these sites, though no direct hits
destroyed them.
Third, the
prime minister referenced Iran's launch of what Israeli military sources
described as a two-stage intercontinental ballistic missile with a 4,000
kilometer range toward Diego Garcia, a remote joint U.S.-U.K. military base in
the Indian Ocean. Netanyahu emphasized that this capability now places much of
Europe within potential Iranian missile range, including capitals such as
Berlin, Paris, and Rome. He noted he has warned of this development for years.
Reports indicate the missiles did not strike the base one reportedly failed
mid-flight, another was intercepted but the attempt marked a significant
escalation, with Iran denying responsibility and some sources labeling it a
possible "false flag" or unconfirmed.
Fourth,
Netanyahu accused Iran of effectively shutting down or threatening the Strait
of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global oil shipments, in what he
termed "oil terror blackmail." Amid the ongoing conflict, Iranian
forces have disrupted shipping through the strait, contributing to energy
supply concerns in Asia and beyond, with threats of full closure if U.S.
actions continue.
Netanyahu
urged leaders of the "free world" and moderate states to act
decisively, asking, "What more are you waiting for?" He invoked
former U.S. President Donald Trump's statements, framing the Israel-U.S.
partnership as defending not only themselves but the broader international
community. "President Trump has correctly said that Israel, the United
States and Israel in this great partnership, we're fighting the battle not only
for ourselves, but for all of you," Netanyahu said, echoing Trump's
question: "Where are you?"
The comments
come amid an intensified Israel-U.S. campaign against Iranian targets,
including nuclear sites, and retaliatory Iranian missile barrages that have
caused civilian casualties and injuries in Israel. While Iran has denied some
specific claims (such as the Diego Garcia targeting) and accused Israel of
disinformation, the exchanges underscore the rapid escalation in the ongoing
conflict.
Netanyahu
concluded by stressing the urgency of unified international action to counter
what he described as Iran's threat to civilization itself.
