SHOWBIZ AND SABOTAGE DRESSED AS LEGAL OPINION: The Impact of Lies on the Movement for the Restoration of Biafra

To Whom It May Concern,

The primary, secondary, and tertiary duty of a lawyer (also called counsel, special counsel, advocate, or attorney) is to advise, represent, and advocate for a client. It is not the role of a Special Counsel to interfere in the day-to-day running of an organization such as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), especially when they are neither members, shareholders, partners, directors, employees, nor official legal representatives of the organization.

Over the past few days, some members of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team have engaged in highly unprofessional conduct. While it would have been easier to ignore them, silence in the face of deliberate misinformation, lies, and propaganda would be counterproductive. It is deeply troubling that lawyers would institutionalize misleading statements and deliberately wage psychological warfare on a people’s movement.

First, one of the lawyers falsely claimed that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is reading responses from Biafrans regarding the struggle and that such responses are troubling him. He stopped short of questioning why Biafrans should not have the right to express their own minds and question decisions, even though their leader is in prison because of them. The following day, he doubled down on another falsehood by claiming that Nelson Mandela led the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa’s constitutional inclusive movement from Robben Island.

Almost simultaneously, another lawyer accused some people of nursing the ambition to take over IPOB by hoping Mazi Nnamdi Kanu dies in prison. Such reckless statements from people who ought to know better are not only troubling but also justify the growing perception that they are biased.

The truth is that Biafrans are simply asking legitimate questions about how the IPOB movement is being run. Questions such as: Why was IPOB leadership structured in a way that denies it access to IPOB funds, while Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s siblings and Nnennaya Anya reportedly have access? This arrangement nearly crippled the movement immediately after Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s abduction by the Nigerian government and has led to disrespect towards the Directorate of State (DOS) by his siblings.

Why was Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s itinerary hidden from the DOS while his siblings knew his whereabouts at all times? Why was his abduction concealed from Biafrans for several days until he was eventually paraded in Nigeria like a common criminal?

Who made the decision to return to court after a discharge and acquittal had already been secured? If it was not the DOS, should the burden of securing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom or the blame for any prolonged imprisonment not rest on those responsible?

These are the genuine questions Biafrans are asking, yet a lawyer is emotionally blackmailing them for daring to seek answers. Every reasonable person can clearly see what is happening.

The implications of these lies, propaganda, and misleading statements are clear: some individuals have turned the struggle into showbiz and are actively sabotaging the Biafra restoration movement. While pretending to offer legal opinions, they are sowing seeds of discord and creating unnecessary division through unguarded utterances.

For those trying to be smart by half, the good news is that the IPOB leadership the Directorate of State (DOS) has taken firm control of the movement. The train has already left the station, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.
