BREAKING: IPOB Directorate Suspends Nnamdi Kanu’s Leadership Positions Indefinitely
The Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the indefinite suspension of the office of the Leader of IPOB and the position of Director of Radio Biafra, both previously held by Mazi Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In an official statement dated 18th June 2026 and signed by Mazi Chikaodibia Edoziem, Head of the Directorate of State, the group cited internal security concerns, intelligence reports, and the need to protect the movement’s non-violent stance and its members in Biafraland.
Key Points from the IPOB Statement:
The suspension of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s positions takes immediate and indefinite effect until further notice.
The Directorate stressed that IPOB is a collective self-determination movement founded and nurtured by Biafrans, not by any single individual. It further affirmed that no individual has the authority to dissolve the apex Directorate of State.
The decision was based on the following reasons:
Intelligence reports detailing meetings between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (while in Sokoto prison) and operatives of the Nigerian State Security Service (DSS) and National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
Concerns that all communications from Kanu in prison are being closely monitored by the DSS, and that some of these communications have reportedly led to arrests and deaths of IPOB members in Biafraland.
Intelligence indicating plans by certain individuals to establish new militias aimed at instigating fresh violence in the region.
The urgent need to prevent reckless actions, unauthorized statements, and criminal activities being carried out under the authority of the suspended leadership positions.
The statement reaffirms IPOB’s commitment to peaceful and non-violent self-determination, stating that the movement will not be held accountable for any crimes or actions taken by individuals or groups acting without authorization from the Directorate of State.
“Any such crime or criminal activity taken in the name of the suspended office of the leader shall not be attributed to IPOB but solely to the person or persons who may have instigated them.”
The IPOB Offcial statemenet stated.
