The Eastern Security Network(ESN) is a paramilitary wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), established in December 2020 as a child of necessity, in response to Fulani threats in the Biafran region.
ESN members are volunteers drawn from IPOB's ranks who abandoned their personal careers, businesses, ambitions, and comforts to protect their communities and homeland. While the exact number of members is not for public consumption, the outfit has remained significantly capable and resistive again every Fulani encroachment, since its formation.
The primary objectives of ESN include:
• Protecting lives and property by ensuring the safety and well-being of people living in Biafraland.
• Preserving the cultural identity and heritage of the Biafran region.
• Defending communities against external aggression and threats posed by both state and non-state actors.
ESN operatives have been associated with various activities aimed at enhancing security in local communities, including combating criminal Fulani herdsmen, securing farmlands, preventing attacks on farmers, and helping to maintain peace and stability in areas under threat.
Behind these objectives lie sacrifices that are often unseen. ESN members have left behind the comfort of their homes and families, abandoned personal pursuits, and accepted the uncertainties and risks that come with a life dedicated to community protection. While others pursued personal advancement, they chose a path of service, commitment, and sacrifice.
Despite opposition, sustained military operations, and internal sabotage, ESN members have remained steadfast in their mission and dedication to Biafran – the people they serve.
