 Radio Biafra: Chinasa Nworu declares IPOB leadership crisis over, accuses Nnamdi Kanu of orchestrating divisions, and rejects restructuring and election boycotts

Mazi Chinasa Nworu, a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Directorate of State (DOS), used a special Radio Biafra broadcast on Sunday, 6 September 2026, to tell supporters the organisation’s internal leadership crisis had ended and that the movement must now concentrate solely on restoring Biafra. Hosted by Mazi Patrick Ikem and carried on Radio Biafra and affiliated platforms, the programme mixed assurances of unity with detailed accusations against detained IPOB figure Nnamdi Kanu and warnings on strategy, security and economics.

Nworu opened by addressing Biafrans of every ethnic background. “Whether you’re Igbo, Ijaw or not, as long as you’re a Biafran, you must listen to this broadcast tonight. Whatever is projected to happen to the Igbos as long as Nigeria is concerned, it must affect you. This is because you’re a Biafran. The world knows who you are.” He said he was speaking to assure people that “the IPOB internal leadership problem is over” and that it was time to move forward. “There is no more sitting on the fence.” He recalled that some had stood aside in 2021 expecting the movement to collapse. The first response to any crisis, he said, should be not to pick sides quickly. The core values remained “restoration of Biafra” and consistency. “Whenever I come on this Radio Biafra to speak to our people, I make sure I do not say things that are unverified. We must make sure we do not lose focus on the core value and objective of our struggle.”

He stated that Nnamdi Kanu would not accept responsibility for the crises that had affected the movement. “Because of his pride and stubbornness he began to use the power given him to self-destruct the struggle.” Nworu added that if Kanu had originated every idea that advanced IPOB, the organisation would have collapsed. “Maazi Nnamdi Kanu was informed that this DOS are the only machinery that can bring Biafra to a logical realization. We championed him as a leader. But he paid many of our sacrifices with orchestrating the destruction of IPOB.” He said Kanu knew the DOS was capable of realising Biafra yet chose, “out of his own negligence,” to try to destroy the movement so he would remain unchallenged. Blind loyalty to the cause, Nworu claimed, had been exploited.

Nworu rejected the claim that Kanu created the leadership. He said Kanu engineered crises to avoid accountability and stay in charge. That period, he declared, had ended. “AVID, Simon Ekperima, other factions are defeated. There is forever PEACE now. No more misuse of IPOB money as Maazi Nnamdi Kanu and his siblings and their co-travelers did.” All splinter groups attacking IPOB leadership, he alleged, were created by Kanu and his siblings. He listed specific episodes: Kanu accepted Simon Ekpa after an introduction by Dave Umahi and attempted to hand IPOB to him; he supported Bridget Okafor when she formed Sunrise and later switched to Avid “because Avid is bringing the dollars.” Leadership positions, Nworu said, had become “the game of the highest bidder.”

He issued a direct warning to Chris Nwaogu, whom he called “the robot in USA.” “Whoever knows the robot called Chris Nwaogu should rightly advise him. We are keeping records of his impersonation. He is liable to be visited and/or invited by the FBI.” Nworu compared the situation to Simon Ekperima, now in a Finnish prison, and said Nwaogu should take a lesson from that case. He contrasted this with Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, noting that governments and global institutions take Edoziem’s letters seriously. “The leadership crisis orchestrated by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu himself in IPOB is over. We are already moving forward. And our focus is geared on the restoration of Biafra.”

Nworu accused Kanu of seeking information from the leadership in order to undermine it, then passing that information to siblings and lawyers. As a result, he said, the DOS no longer shares internal details. He called on everyone to join the movement and stop giving relevance to detractors. “Definitely, Nigeria must disintegrate. The things happening in Nigeria is to our advantage.” He distinguished between those who talk about Biafra for connections and “the hard core” who remain unmoved.

On sit-at-home orders, Nworu said the DOS had initiated the strategy but Kanu became angry that it was announced without his prior knowledge. After the announcement, Kanu cancelled it and handed enforcement to Ekperima. Repeating the same tactic now, he argued, would expose and weaken the movement. “You don’t use same strategy twice against your enemy. Anybody telling you that you should boycott election is a criminal. Disregard any such news.” He linked the latest boycott talk to an attempt to regain attention and collect money, comparing it to 2019. Peter Obi, he said, has a right to contest, but any deal struck in IPOB’s name that later leads to people being massacred is betrayal. He also warned that there is a high chance Obi would abandon supporters if pressure increased, which is why the Eastern Security Network (ESN) must be supported. “IPOB is the only option available to safeguard you.”

Nworu demanded that people stop attaching the IPOB name to internet fraud and other crimes. “Leave IPOB in your Yahoo scams. You can do whatever crime you want to but remove IPOB name in your evils. Otherwise, we will not take it lightly with any one of you.” He said accusations had been levelled against him while Kanu, whom he accused of committing fraud and refusing accountability, faced little criticism. He described a pattern in which Kanu used the struggle to enrich himself and his siblings, then travelled to Kenya while trying to hand the organisation to someone who would continue that enrichment.

The DOS, Nworu said, had sponsored investigations along the East African route Kanu took before his abduction—Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. He stated that he personally ensured the inquiries were thorough and still holds classified information that he has chosen not to release publicly. When the leadership asked Kanu to disassociate IPOB from Ekperima’s alleged crimes, Kanu instead used the request against the DOS. The resulting blackmail, Nworu said, became unbearable.

On political ideology, Nworu was unequivocal. “Our ideology is disintegration but some of them will come and argue or mess your head with restructuring. Telling you that it is true federalism.” He said the problems of ethnic tension, tribalism, Fulani jihadism and conquest have persisted since independence and will not disappear. “This is why we insist that the only permanent solution is cessation of Nigeria.” Claims that the North would suffer after disintegration, he argued, follow a colonial playbook used by France in Niger and by Britain in northern Nigeria. Everyone, including the North, should embrace disintegration for progress and freedom from that construct.

He warned Igbo traders that restructuring would displace them. “This business you are doing, Nigerian government is planning to replace you with the Chinese and Indians.” Chinese and Indian businesses, he said, are already positioning from Lagos to Kano to Aba and Igweocha and building malls, including in Biafraland. Traders should use the end of the year to educate their communities and begin connecting with those investors rather than later complaining of injustice. “Nigerian government will not intervene. Infact, Nigerian government wants you replaced.”

Nworu closed by repeating that people had spent years defending one individual who, in his account, responded with threats against members and their families. “Biafrans must wake up. All of us came here to get our country.” The broadcast lasted more than three hours.
