IPOB Homeland Leadership Issues Memorandum Affirming: Peace Is Non-Negotiable

October 20, 2026

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Homeland Leadership, under the Directorate of State headed by Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, has released an official memorandum dated October 19, 2026, stating that the movement remains peaceful and has fully dissociated itself from Nnamdi Kanu.

In the document, signed by Mazi Expensive, Publicity Secretary for the IPOB Homeland Leadership, the group said it has severed ties with Kanu following his court conviction and jail sentence, as well as with any criminal elements associated with him. The memorandum stated that IPOB “has consistently made it clear to the world that our movement has no knowledge of, nor participation in any unlawful activities.”

Despite the dissociation, the leadership said directives continue to be issued from Kanu through what it described as his “Sokoto agents,” aimed at mobilizing individuals to cause chaos. According to the memorandum, IPOB meeting grounds in Aba and Anambra have been repeatedly targeted and stormed by these agents. As a result, the leadership suspended meetings in several vulnerable locations and relocated others to undisclosed venues due to direct threats against members. These steps, the statement said, were taken “strictly to prevent any measure of violence,” as the group refuses to engage in retaliation.

The memorandum further stated that the Homeland Leadership received intelligence about a gathering organized last week in Umuoji, Anambra State, by opposing elements. It said the intent of the gathering was to stage an event, mobilize violent groups to disrupt it, and subsequently blame IPOB for the chaos. Coordinators circulated voice notes warning members and the public to stay away. While many heeded the warning, those who attended faced the disruption, the statement noted. The perpetrators, according to the memorandum, are now labeling the protective warnings as “threats” in an attempt to shift blame onto IPOB.

The leadership reiterated that “IPOB is a peaceful movement” and that “anyone attempting to associate IPOB with violence is doing so wrongly and maliciously.” It issued a warning to Nnamdi Kanu’s Sokoto camp to desist from executing violent plots against Biafrans, stating that external provocations from the Nigerian state over the years had not forced the group to abandon its peaceful approach, and that no internal faction would succeed in turning the movement violent.

The memorandum concluded that “you cannot control or manipulate IPOB” and that “the restoration of Biafra remains an unyielding objective, and it will be achieved through peaceful, resolute means.”

The full text of the memorandum was issued as an official communication from the IPOB Homeland Leadership.
