IPOB Homeland Leadership warns members against Sokoto forms linked to Nnamdi Kanu

The Homeland Leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned members in the homeland not to complete forms it says are being circulated in connection with Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto prison facility.

In a memorandum dated 5 October 2026 and signed by Mazi Expensive, National Publicity Secretary, the leadership said the notice was issued under the heading of Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem. It directed “all Biafrans in the homeland to completely disconnect themselves” from Kanu and said anyone who fills the forms does so at their own risk.

The memorandum said the current IPOB leadership had moved to stop decisions that lead to the arrest, disappearance or death of members, and that such outcomes had stopped since that leadership began directing the organisation. It said the group would not allow those gains to be reversed.

According to the notice, the Nigerian state is using Kanu for what it described as a depopulation agenda. It listed three measures:

Detention in the custody of the Department of State Services, which it said was used to collect biometric data and National Identification Numbers of visitors in order to identify IPOB members.

Kanu’s transfer to Sokoto, which it said followed the failure of that approach and was presented as open access in order to identify remaining loyalists.

Distribution of physical forms through IPOB units and zones to collect phone numbers and money, after what it called the failure of the first two steps and of state propaganda.

The memorandum also said Kanu, at the direction of the government, has been holding WhatsApp meetings with agents in different states and beyond, and issuing orders and guidelines aimed at destroying IPOB.

It told members they may contribute money if they choose, but must not submit their names or phone numbers or fill out the forms. It said anyone who ignores the warning has only themselves to blame, and that a court has sentenced Kanu. It added that anyone associating with him is abetting criminality and that the government will come after such persons in due time.

The notice said IPOB will not rescue anyone abducted, arrested or disappeared because of the forms. It said that if the government presents a completed form as proof of membership of what it called the Nnamdi Kanu group, that form will be the basis for IPOB to disassociate itself from the person concerned, and that the organisation will tell the court it was unaware of the action.

The memorandum described the position as final.
