IPOB Unveils New Liaison Office in Finland, Citing Expanded Diplomatic Reach

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has unveiled a new liaison office in Finland, according to a member of the movement based in Finland. The source said the office will be formally opened by the Directorate of State (DOS) led by Mazi Chika Edoziem, and described the step as part of a wider effort to place permanent contact points in more countries.

Members say the Finland office is meant to give the movement a clearer channel to the international community. In their account, liaison offices are used to receive enquiries, coordinate diaspora members, and present the movement’s call for a referendum on Biafran self-determination to foreign contacts and countries. Finland’s location in the European Union and its proximity to Nordic institutions are cited by organisers as reasons the new office could help them reach policymakers, civil-society groups, and media outlets in northern Europe more directly than through informal networks alone.

The DOS under Edoziem has continued to announce liaison offices in different countries. The movement statements linked to earlier openings have argued that a wider network of diplomatic offices reduces reliance on a single headquarters, keeps communication open if one contact point is disrupted, and allows regional coordinators to handle local matters without routing every request through one centre. Organisers also say the offices are intended to document rights concerns, transfer the group’s important documents, and arrange meetings with sympathetic organisations and countries abroad.

Recently, the same leadership opened a liaison office in Barcelona, Spain. That opening followed earlier contact points associated with the DOS in places such as Málaga, and other European cities. In statements around those events, the group said each new office expands the points through which “friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom” can reach Biafran representatives and, through them, the DOS leadership.

According to the Finland announcement, the strategic value for the new office includes easier engagement with European institutions, a fixed address for correspondence from international observers, and a base from which diaspora members can organise briefings. Organisers further argue that a presence in another EU member state strengthens their effort to internationalise the Biafran question and to keep the campaign visible.
