Injustice Against Igbos: The Driving Force Behind IPOB Agitations

On the Friday 5th November 2021, the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezife made it clear that the reason for the agitations in Nigeria by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and other pro-Biafra groups, was gross injustice. Reacting to the arrest of Obi Cubana, the invasion and attack on Justice Mary Odili by unknown Nigerian security operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) operatives, are not just only demeaning but insulting and provocative.

He made it clear that it is the spate of injustice against the Igbos, and all Biafrans of course, coupled with the Nigerian retrogressive mentality, that gave birth to all the prevailing agitations. Chief Ezeife made references to the crippled Ibeto cement, a business from Igbo descent, whose owner was reduced to nothing by the Nigerian government, Ifeanyi Uba, a renowned petroleum merchant, who the Nigerian government tried to pull down, amongst many others. Recounting how Nigeria's government has been using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to frustrate the progress of Igbo people in business and also forcing a dent on the image of Igbo politicians.

Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife reminded those who cared to listen that the crimes against the Igbo race in Nigeria can no longer be condoned.

While reacting to questions on the arrest of Obi Cubana and the invasion of the residence of Justice Mary Odili by the EFCC, Chief Ezeife said, "this is what IPOB is talking about. This is what Igbo people are talking about, that they are pushing us out of Nigeria's system."

It is truly high time we address the injustices in Nigeria against the Igbos, particularly.
