For The second time, Nigerian Secret Police Grants Illegally Detained IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu Access To Personal Medical Doctor

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday allowed the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, access to his second preferred personal medical doctor.

Kanu’s lead counsel, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who made this known in a statement on Thursday said the detained IPOB leader was attended to by an ENT surgeon (a medical doctor that specialises in treating conditions that affect the ear, nose and throat, as well as head and neck surgery).

The DSS earlier allowed Kanu access to the first medical doctor of his choice after Justice B.F.M. Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, on July 20 delivered a judgment in favour of the detained IPOB leader who had filed a suit against the secret police for denying him access to his choice of medical doctor.

Justice Nyako ordered the DSS to allow Kanu access to medical doctors of his choice and to be examined outside the facilities of the Service.

Ejiofor in the statement on Thursday said “pursuant to the judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja, delivered by Hon. Justice B.F.M. Nyako on the 20th day of July 2023, and consequential orders made therein, directing the State Security Services (SSS) to allow Nnamdi Kanu access to medical doctors of his choice, and to be examined outside the facility of the SSS; Onyendu was yesterday, allowed access to his second medical doctor of his choice.

“Yesterday being the 16th day of August, 2023, Kanu completed his second medical examination with his ENT surgeon recommended by his amiable wife, and as the protocol demands, I was present to witness the entire process, which was spectacularly seamless.

“The process which lasted for about an hour was excitedly medically impactful, especially that the exercise was undertaken by a highly rated and award-winning ENT surgeon in one of the best medical facilities in Abuja.”
