BREAKING: Tinubu in emergency meeting with military Chiefs
over plot to overthrow His government --Report
Rumors about the alleged coup de'tat against the Nigerian
President Bola Tinubu, by some elements in the Nigerian military have been
filtering into media space in the evening hours of Sunday February 25, 2024.
Most Nigerian conventional media are reporting that the
Presidential Guard Brigades have been placed on high alert to thwart coup
attempts due to suspensions movement of unusual armored corps, while the
Presidency have initiated an emergency meeting with top officials of the
Nigerian military to discuss potential consequences of the threat.
According to Sahara Reporters, the commander of the
Presidential Guard Brigades, Col Adebisi Onasanya, the president and his chief
of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila are in a serious high-level meeting with Ahmed
Tinubu, and the results of such meeting might likely be made public in the
coming hours.
Recall that lately, Nigeria have experienced a heightened
level of dissension and protests by the civilian population, precisely in the
Western and northern regions of the country over economic hardship, high cost
of living and insecurity.
This could be serve as 'legitimate" reasons for such an
event. However, other political incentives and factors cannot be ruled out.
Given the squabble that has subsisted between the North and the 8-months old
Tinubu's Presidency, there is a likelihood of a conspiracy, but the success of
the coup remains in dim-sight as there is an ostensive possibility that the
coup would have been foiled by the Presidency and his team of
loyal armed forces.
