IPOB once again distances itself from the Ekpa-led BRGIE

Home - IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has proclaimed its disassociation from the Biafra Government in Exile (BRGIE), which is headed by Simon Ekpa in Finland. It emphasized that all calculated efforts to connect it with BRGIE arise from "mischief-makers" who do not genuinely embody the principles of the movement.

In a statement released on Thursday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB emphasized that it neither endorses nor recognizes BRGIE and firmly rejects being part of what it describes as a criminal syndicate.

Powerful highlighted the principles upheld by IPOB’s detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, which revolve around discipline, non-violence, and clear moral guidance in the quest for Biafra’s restoration. The group maintains that it will not devolve into the antics of attention-seekers and impostors who claim to form governments in informal settings without the populace's backing.

“The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the esteemed leadership of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been brought to a disturbing and absurd narrative circulating among those bereft of sound judgment. It features individuals—masquerading from afar as supposed 'freedom fighters'—who attempt to draw comparisons between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and a self-proclaimed content creator lacking true courage,” the statement asserted.

“We must make it clear: anyone so misguided as to make such comparisons requires immediate psychological evaluation.

“To equate the resilient Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has faced extraordinary rendition, isolation, torture, and a relentless seven-year political and legal battle, with someone who openly rejected Biafra in a courtroom is sheer folly.

“Historically, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has explicitly condemned the following actions, all of which have been undertaken by the deceitful individual now scrambling for recognition:

- No Biafran should establish a government in exile.

- No Biafran should create an army or armed faction.

- No Biafran currency should be printed or sold.

- No Biafran identity card should be issued.

- No Biafran passport should be printed or distributed.”
