 Biafra Effect: Nnamdi Kanu Vehemently Rejected A Legal Team’s Deliberate Misadvise

When the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) unconstitutionally presented a highly partisan report against Nnamdi Kanu, it created a public outcry and disillusionment over the dangerous trend of complete seizure of public institutions by a fantastically corrupt and lawless government. It showed just how much Nigeria has gravitated towards irreversible resuscitation, but it was the courage and brave interrogation from Dr. Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo that showed a glimmer of hope.

Yet, the admission by a member of the recently disbanded Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team that indeed the NMA report came earlier than the court mandated date, and that the legal team’s inability to object its tender as a valid document was the chief reason Justice James Omotosho gave for not revisiting what was a clear crime of judicial contempt and endangering of someone’s life is very disturbing. While the complicity of the Judge is monumental, it is the suggestion that, somehow, the defense team has been engaging in acts of sabotage that is most troubling. This shows the mountain of rot Nnamdi Kanu endures.

The question is: how could a defense that is worth its onion really miss such an important window of opportunity? Was it really an oversight or an intentional projection? Perhaps, this unprofessional conduct or deliberate sabotage proves the point of those that objected to the continued impartation of life to a concluded case or the involvement of persons whose actions and inactions support a fraudulent one Nigeria regardless. It is indeed shocking.

More revealing, therefore, is the audacity of a Senior Advocate and one time Minister of Justice to render an advice suggestive of soft pedal and the threat to withdraw service once the advice was rejected. It just happens that the Senior Advocate thinks that the clamour for Biafra, on this present dispensation, for which many IPOB members paid the ultimate price dwarfs in comparison to his towering personality. 

If a Senior Advocate tolerates a court room game that clearly persecutes an innocent man with the intention of jailing him despite a mountain of lack of evidence, if he favors a trade off that will protect a so-called sacred cows then it is not justice. Every society must discourage graveyard peace, seek equity with clean hands and avoid injustice.

What Nnamdi Kanu has shown is a Biafra effect: it is audacious courage that insists on doing the right thing and doing things right. It does not blink or cower. It is a divinely spiritual possession that keeps you upright and untainted. It is the ancient drive of the Moors — the ancient people. It is the never give up spirit of the Igbo people. It is freedom.

Nnamdi Kanu is sick and requires freedom to access proper treatment. His health should not be used as a political bargaining leverage for Nigerian government through proxies like Justice James Omotosho.
