Kanu's Direct Message from Sokoto: Reject Money Demands for Access – No Authorization Given to Anyone

Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has issued a strong caution to his supporters and the broader Igbo community against falling victim to scams involving payments for access, assistance, or influence regarding his ongoing detention. The warning, delivered through one of his lawyers, Nnaemeka Ejiofor, emphasizes that no one neither family members, legal representatives, nor third parties has been authorized to collect funds in exchange for visits or interventions. This message aligns with recent revelations shared by prominent Igbo figure Lolo Nneka Chimezie, who visited Kanu in Sokoto Prison and disclosed details of alleged fraud and extortion from some family members.

Kanu's statement, as relayed by Ejiofor in a post shared on social media , underscores the risks of exploitation amid his prolonged incarceration. "Do not give money to anyone before coming to see me," Kanu reportedly warned, stressing that visits should be free, voluntary, and rooted in genuine solidarity rather than financial transactions. Ejiofor, speaking on Kanu's behalf, clarified that neither Kanu's brother, lawyers, nor any intermediaries have permission to solicit money. He described any such demands as fraudulent and urged the public to treat them with suspicion. The statement highlights growing concerns over opportunistic schemes targeting Kanu's dedicated followers during his time in custody.

This warning comes on the heels of explosive revelations from Lolo Nneka Chimezie, also known as Madam Pinto, who provided a firsthand account of her visit to Kanu at Sokoto Correctional Medium Prison on January 18, 2026. Accompanied by His Royal Majesty Eze Chukwuemeka Nri and other cabinet members, Chimezie shared updates on Kanu's condition and the state of IPOB in a widely circulated video interview. In the discussion, Chimezie recounted what Kanu told her about internal challenges facing the movement.

IPOB has consistently denied involvement in violence, attributing insecurity in the Southeast to state sponsored actors. As calls for Kanu's release persist, these developments underscore the challenges facing the push for Biafran self-determination.

Observers have pointed out that although Nnamdi Kanu's warning is primarily intended to shield his supporters from fraudulent schemes, the disclosures made by Lolo Nneka Chimezie have brought renewed attention to questions surrounding leadership and authority within the movement. At present, the emphasis continues to be on promoting transparency, preserving genuine solidarity, and supporting the cause while Kanu remains in detention.
