A tragic incident was reported on Friday, 15th May 2026, in Oba Community, Anambra State, after operatives of the Governor Charles Soludo security outfit popularly known as “Udogachi” , reportedly opened fire while pursuing a suspect within the community.
According to eyewitness accounts, the security operatives were attempting to apprehend a fleeing suspect when the situation escalated. Residents alleged that upon finding it difficult to catch the suspect through direct pursuit, some of the operatives resorted to firing live ammunition in a public area instead of intensifying the chase through safer means.
In the course of the shooting, a stray bullet reportedly struck an innocent woman who was sitting on a commercial motorcycle along the road.
Witnesses stated that the victim fell-off immediately after being hit and was later confirmed dead at the scene, throwing residents and passersby into shock and panic.
The incident reportedly caused tension within the community as angry residents and those passing bye condemned the use of live bullets in such a populated civilian environment. Many questioned the level of training and operational discipline of the security personnel involved, calling for Soludo to be cautioned against such rascality of his instituted securith outfit, since it is not what the Anambra People expectes from the Governor.
Others also called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
At the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased woman had not been officially released, while authorities were yet to issue a detailed public statement regarding the incident.
Community members have continued to demand justice for the victim and accountability from those responsible for the shooting.
