A tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of May 15, 2026, in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, after a young man and a police officer allegedly lost their lives during a pursuit that ended inside a water-filled pit. 

According to eyewitness accounts reaching Family Writers Press International, the incident began when the unidentified young man was being chased by a police officer under circumstances that remain unclear at the time of this report. Residents said the chase moved through a poorly secured area containing a deep pit filled with water, believed to have been created by erosion or excavation activities within the community.

Witnesses narrated that while attempting to escape, the young man accidentally slipped and fell into the pit. In the confusion and urgency of the moment, the pursuing police officer also reportedly fell into the same water-filled location while trying to continue the chase or possibly rescue the victim.

Panic reportedly spread across the area as residents and passersby gathered around the scene, making desperate attempts to save both individuals. Local volunteers and community members were later said to have joined efforts to recover them from the pit. Sadly, by the time both bodies were brought out, they were reportedly unresponsive.
