IPOB Disowns Armed Criminals in Viral Video, Accuses Nigerian Government of Using Proxy Militias to Tarnish ESN Image
The Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong public statement disowning a circulating video featuring armed individuals claiming to represent the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and issuing threats against Biafrans and non-Biafrans alike.
In an official communication dated June 25, 2026, and signed by Dr. C. Okadigbo, DOS Press Secretary, the group categorically stated that the individuals in the video are not affiliated with either the ESN or the broader IPOB self-determination movement.
“Those criminal gangs, militants and terrorists neither belong to the ESN nor to the IPOB Self Determination movement,” the statement reads. “It is very obvious that these are criminal militia set up to tarnish the hard earned image of the ESN as a disciplined security outfit.”
The DOS emphasized that the ESN operates under rigorous disciplinary standards, is trained to avoid harassment, intimidation, criminal activities, or human rights violations against civilians in Biafraland.
It further noted that the ESN does not manage its own social media accounts and only issues public statements through official IPOB leadership channels.
This clarification came after a video surfaced online showing a group of masked gunmen associated with Simon Ekpa’s Biafra Liberation Army (BLA). The gunmen falsely claimed to be operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and pledged allegiance to Nnamdi Kanu while issuing threats against Biafrans. In a firm response, the Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has categorically disowned the armed group and the video.
