Ukraine Uses New 6-Ton Missile in Strikes on Russia

Ukraine has used its new FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile in long-range strikes on Russia, including the overnight attack on the Moscow region that hit an oil refinery and a logistics site, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The Flamingo, built by Ukrainian firm Fire Point, weighs about six tonnes. Reports put its warhead at up to 1,150 kilograms more than twice the roughly 450-kilogram warhead of a U.S.

Tomahawk Block V and claim a range of up to about 3,000 kilometres, or nearly 2,000 miles, farther than the Tomahawk’s publicly stated reach. Fire Point has also said each missile costs under $600,000, about six times less than a Tomahawk.

The comparison is not complete. Analysts note the Flamingo is much heavier, takes longer to prepare for launch and is generally described as less accurate than the Tomahawk. Its advantage, as reported, is payload, claimed range and lower cost.

Zelenskyy said Sunday’s operation also used drones and other Ukrainian systems, including the Pelican ballistic missile. Russian officials said most incoming drones were intercepted but confirmed damage at the Moscow Oil Refinery.

The Flamingo has been in production since 2025 and has previously been reported in strikes on industrial sites deeper inside Russia.
