Zelenskyy Says Ukrainian Long-Range Strikes Hit Oil and Logistics Sites Near Moscow

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that overnight long-range strikes had inflicted “a very significant impact” in the Moscow region, hitting what he described as one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities and a logistics site used by Russian forces.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy wrote: “Our long-range responses had a very significant impact in the Moscow region last night. One of Russia’s key oil industry facilities and the aggressor’s logistics facility were hit. These are billions of dollars that sustain the war machine.” He attached video that he presented as footage of successful strikes.

Zelenskyy said the systems used included FP-1, RZ-100, MICH-2000, Palianytsia, Vendetta, Liutyi, Bars, Flamingo, Sichen and Pelican. He thanked the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, Defence Intelligence and the Foreign Intelligence Service. He also said a facility in Russia’s Voronezh region had been struck.

Ukraine’s General Staff said the oil target was the Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district of Moscow. It reported damage to the AVT-6 primary crude-processing unit, a comprehensive oil-processing unit and an isomerization unit, and said a large fire broke out at the plant. The refinery processes more than 11 million tonnes of crude a year and supplies a substantial share of fuel for Moscow and the surrounding region, including gasoline and aviation kerosene.

Ukrainian and independent reports also identified a logistics and warehouse complex in the Sofyino area of the Ramensky district, associated with Modern Warehouse Technologies, as having been hit and set on fire.

Russian officials confirmed an unusually large overnight drone assault. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defences had intercepted about 450 drones heading for the capital and more than 1,600 across a wider area since Saturday. He called it the most massive attack on Moscow to date, said several drones reached the refinery grounds and that one struck a residential building in the city. He said there were no fatalities in Moscow itself and accused Ukraine of trying to disrupt Russia’s parliamentary elections, which were in their final day.

Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said people were killed and others injured in the wider region. Casualty figures reported by Russian officials ranged from two dead and several wounded to at least three dead after a later hospital death. Residents were evacuated from damaged apartment buildings, including a high-rise in the Ramenskoye area. Flights at Vnukovo airport were briefly suspended. Reuters witnesses in Moscow reported explosions and smoke rising from the refinery.

The Moscow refinery has been struck before. Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian oil and logistics infrastructure, arguing that fuel production and supply networks finance and sustain Russia’s war. Russian authorities say they intercept most incoming drones and do not target civilians; Ukraine says the same of its own operations. Both sides have continued strikes on energy-related infrastructure despite earlier diplomatic talk of restraint.
